Insitu Paintings Stream Capture Sept:Oct 2017

The InSitu series in name is a semi-homage to the situationists and a little hint towards the Situation Room an artist run space for performance, spoken word, art and happenings run by a good friend Jonny Liron..

In practice they are a cross over between the arts, painting becomes installation, installation becomes performance, performance becomes video, video becomes live stream.

This is a time lapse capture of the live performances streamed to the internet. The words and text are set to enlighten and awaken the viewer, an attempt to instill a type of esoteric knowledge shedding light on that which is contained within. The projected text perhaps alludes to the bombardment of the senses from media and advertising while the use of technologies such as streaming alludes to the new, the future.

The mask allows us to become both anonymous by hiding our identity and perhaps allowing us to become more ourselves, overcoming taboos, breaking down the societally instilled masks we wear everyday. The masquerade also aids it in finding parallels between there performances and that which we may imagine to be the rituals or initiations of some kind of cult or secret society, the sounds of chanting monks turn the artist into mystic and the art into alchemy. Culminating with the ape in awe of its own collective historic invention.
