This is my earlier painting which painted on the wood board. I was deeply attracted to Japanese Ukiyo-e and I write an essay in my BA course. It described the relationship, development and influence between Ukiyo-e and Chinese traditional painting. The development of Ukiyo-e and Chinese traditional painting is inextricably linked to the figure painting, but Ukiyo-e has more portrayals of the Shunga .
Shunga is a Japanese term for erotic art. Most shunga are a type of ukiyo-e, usually executed in woodblock print format. While rare, there are extant erotic painted handscrolls which predate the Ukiyo-e movement.Translated literally, the Japanese word shunga means picture of spring; “spring” is a common euphemism for sex.
The material of the painting is a composite material, and I put some stones and sand into it to make it.This process is quite interesting.
