People not only transformed the practice of nature, but also constantly reinvent itself, since the 20th century science and technology and the development of mass media not only expands our knowledge and information, and reshape the way our senses and the feelings of the world, aesthetic feeling form also changed. The development of sensibility gave birth to the change of art. When the traditional art was not enough to satisfy the emotional needs of this information media era, new media art emerged. New media art is a broad concept, mainly refers to the use of video, computer, video, installation, integrated media performance such as the carrier, on the basis of the new language of science and technology such as electronics, optics, especially the use of information technology and network technology as the basic language of art. It embodies the new features of contemporary aesthetic psychological appeal with multimedia, interactivity, non-linearity and virtuality.
From the relationship between culture and the media, the French theory family is divided into three periods: the writing period, the printing era and the audio-visual era. Undoubtedly, since the second half of the 20th century, humans have been transformed from reading and writing as the main means of receiving and disseminating knowledge to seeing and listening as the main means. The unprecedented development of digital technology and media has reshaped people’s sensibility and made art change. The single mode of communication cannot meet the needs of the contemporary sensibility, and the form of artistic feeling, even if it is not like what binyamin says is tactile, is the fact that the multidimensional and comprehensive are not. There is no doubt that our times have “gone beyond the visual stage and become increasingly multimedia and multisensory.” Postmodernism is an important feature of mass culture and business logic penetration in the field of cultural production, so the post-modern art is not as the characteristics of elite culture and modern art shows the attention to the public and daily life. As Benjamin said, “the public wants to recover and were asked to concentrate on” art, public art and the contradiction in the age of mechanical reproduction of solved, accompanied by a copy of the light faded, art with technology “into” the masses “shock” effect, so as to meet the needs of “trip”. New media art is relying on modern media means, breaking the previous art way of a single message, to create a multiple senses of situation and environment, bring the audience “shocked” effect of immersion. Since the 1960s, korean-american artist Bainan zhun has been exploring the art form of multimedia. He has used the most advanced media, such as television and video, to create multi-dimensional aesthetic feelings. With the popularity of personal computers, the rise of the Internet and the development of virtual reality technology, more means are provided for the further development of art.
“Osmose” is Davis’s immersive device designed in 1995. This is a device with three dimensional computer graphics and stereo sound effects, which provides an interesting time and space background to explore the subjective experience of the self. The user needs to wear a helmet display and an emotional tracking vest to see how he is experiencing the psychological and emotional changes that occur in different environments. By using a helmet display, the user is completely immersed in a 360-degree sphere of private space and controls the manual joystick to navigate the virtual world. The realistic virtual reality technology brings the illusion of immersive experience to the audience. Music plays an important role in enhancing the audience’s emotional experience, thus creating a strong sense of presence.
Canadian artist Luke kutcher’s 2005 work, “where are you?360 degree panorama” offers a virtual experience of space and time. In the works, the audience is flying through a multi-dimensional world, moving between the past and the future, moving between the bright and the dark, transforming between the private and the public. Immerse in it, switch between X, Y, and Z through a joystick and enter a level of information/experience space. At any level, the audience will encounter other residents: a remote device connection of living things, are recorded in advance to display in the video window, visitors will have their own – also the hidden camera will be the picture of the visitors into the structure of the w
Since the 20th century, pioneering artists with pioneering spirit have made various courageous explorations, and the development of science and technology has undoubtedly injected a strong dose of heart into this exploration. Benjamin once said: “every form of art has experienced a critical moment in the history of its development, and only under the change of the new technology to achieve results, in other words, need a new forms of art to find breakthroughs.” The development of the modern art is no longer independent of the progress of technology, science and technology provides a new means for artists and the media, expanded the art performance areas, difficult to achieve the previous art aesthetic pursuit and aesthetic experience. The breakthrough that this technology brings to art is embodied in new media art. Shock and immersive, between human and machine interaction, nonlinear and non-material experience form the aesthetic psychological characteristics of the new media art, distinguishes them from previous art, to satisfy the contemporary aesthetic appeal.
