Title ‘Janet,26 from Edinburgh’ was a married women with two children, and was incarcerated here at Millbank Prison for robbery in 1843. She was sentenced to ten years and so transported to the Colonies. Medium: acrylic on paper and measures 150cm x 160cm.
I like this painting and would have shown it as an assessment piece but there are just too many drawings to have chosen from. I need my own show them all in the MAFA gallery at some point to let the whole ‘portfolio’ and its research be seen together. Like the 4.5metre rubbing I made around the Millbank Bollard. That alone is a beautiful piece; the character and presence of the huge lump of tactile Millbank Prison.
