Arron Johnson is an artist I found accidentally, his works involves acrylic painting, sculpture, but what I found the most interest is his sock painting.
I think in addition to his uncanny figures his created, the more thing I can learn from is how he use sock as a media of painting, a simliarly soft, ready-make material as yarn.
On the one hand, sock originally has it own various colour, pattern and even texture, after add acrylic paint on top, it reveals a sense of fine art painting. Moreover, because of incompletely covered pattern on sock, the final painting shows one more layer than conventional-called plain painting.
On the other hand, sock originally as a daily costume, has it’s own design, shape and volume. The artist makes ingenious use of sock’s feature on depicting his figures, which give me some ideas in my own creation……
