A poetic response to crossing over ‘Common Ground’ in the White Cube Bermonsedy 2018

WELCOME

welcome to the smell of cabbage

welcome home son

welcome home wife

welcome to not talking to each other

welcome to dinner and a glass of wine

welcome to oblivion

welcome to the dust accumulator

welcome to the end of work

welcome to more hard work

welcome to your loving family

welcome to the wagging tail of your dog

welcome to the key under the mat

welcome to the family mythology

welcome to teatime

welcome to the party

welcome to the smell of fresh paint

welcome to repetition

welcome to love and kisses

welcome to difficult questions

welcome to our house

welcome to silence

welcome to loneliness

welcome to grandma’s whiskers

welcome to a dark passage

a doormat always says ‘welcome’ never goodbye

we don’t have a doormat outside our flat anymore

after Grenfell they were deemed a fire risk
