H-fact: Hospitality/Hostility 2003-7

A collection of luminescent signs, that the artist replicated from cheap motels and late night hooker locations. The Artist was inspired by his wanders in the night through the city of Bangkok, getting himself lost in back alley ways and smelly streets with little light to fill them. ‘How inviting they are, tempting, yet extremely run down, tacky and blinding on the dark streets; A non stop glow, 24 hours, 7 days a week, A sort of desperation’. Here the artist wants to convey a desperate sense of wanting and desire, as they are displayed here on purpose above a coffee stop in the Tate, a reaction to the illegal trade in prostitution and how migrant workers are slaves to work in these conditions.
