In our capitalist Western world, there are many regulations to protect the health and safety of the people, but few to protect the well-being of our planet. Why do we view “nature” as something separate from us when our minds and bodies are wrapped up in the world around us? In creating this painting, I’m questioning the current limited role of governments in regulating the protection of our environment. There are many grass-roots campaigns begging people to resist the temptations of advertising and reduce their consumption of mass-produced goods, yet we continue to be unable to resist.
My painting Sweet Temptation will be on view at the Cookies + Coke exhibition at Art Number 23 Gallery in the Old Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey on 22-27 March.
